Bristol City have been fined for their involvement with an unlicensed agent during Enoch Showunmi's move to Ashton Gate back in June 2006.
The Robins have been fined £15,000, a third of which has been suspended for two years, and warned as to their future conduct after dealing with Mark Wilson when the striker completed his move from Luton.
The Football Association withdrew a second allegation against the club while Showunmi, who now plays for Leeds having moved to Elland Road last summer, was also fined £2,000.
Showunmi admitted a separate charge of using unlicensed agent Wilson and the independent Regulatory Commission fined him for three breaches and warned him about his future conduct.
Agent Charles Collymore was also charged with entering into a sham arrangement with Wilson but denied all the charges and the Commission found the charges against him not proved.
Unhappy Robins chairman Steve Lansdown told the club's official website: "We talk to the wrong person and get fined and made to look like criminals."
