Gonzalo Higuain is the fourth most expensive footballer in history, only behind Paul Pogba, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.Juventus used most of the £89.3 million they received from Manchester United for Pogba on the Argentine striker who had scored an impressive 91 goals in 146 appearances over the course of three seasons for Napoli. However, Juve fans were left shocked when Higuain made his debut against West Ham looking, well, a little on the large side. For £75 million, the Italian giants had every right to expect the South American to report for pre-season training in peak physical condition. The Old Lady reacted by putting Higuain on a strict diet - per Gazzetta dello Sport - to help their record signing shift the excess pounds in time for the start of the 2016-17 campaign."I was shocked to see Higuain, he is even more fat than me," the former Real Madrid and Barcelona midfielder Robert Prosinecki told Jutarnji List, per Goal, at the time. "They paid 94 million [Euros] for him and he's arrived as a 'little pig!'"I can imagine how shocked [Max] Allegri was, after he insisted on his signing. But they will make him fit soon."

Higuain received hostile reception from Napoli fans

Higuain eventually got himself in reasonable shape and, in 39 appearances for Juve this season, has scored 23 goals - 19 of which have come in Serie A, making him the league’s fifth-highest goalscorer so far this term.

The 29-year-old knew he’d receive a hostile reception on his return to the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday evening - many Napoli fans will never forgive him for joining Juventus - and the supporters who once adored him didn’t let him down.

Higuain mocked on social media because of his weight

As well as being whistled and booed inside the stadium, Higuain was also mercilessly mocked on social media for looking a little on the heavy side again.

Following a two-week international break, the Argentine centre-forward appears to have piled on a few pounds.

And here’s how Twitter reacted…

And here are a few more per 101 Great Goals

Poor guy.

Still, Higuain should have the last laugh...

Juventus, following their 1-1 draw with Napoli, find themselves six points clear of second-placed AS Roma with eight matches left to play.

Napoli could have put themselves in contention to win the league by securing all three points - they remain 10 points behind the league-leaders - but they couldn’t find a winner after Marek Hamsik had cancelled out Sami Khedira’s early opener.
