As the old saying goes, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic embodied that axiom on Saturday night in a loss to the lowly Brooklyn Nets.During the first quarter of the game in Brooklyn, Vucevic got the ball at the top of the key and looked for someone to pass it to. Spotting forward Aaron Gordon with a clear path to an easy dunk, Vucevic attempted to lop it to the post.As you can see in the video below, though, Vucevic put a little too much mustard on his lob, clanging it off the front of the rim. However, the ball bounced straight up in the air and came back down through the net for the luckiest two points of the NBA season:

The unorthodox basket may not have been what Vucevic intended to happen, but he'll take it with a smile on his face. The Magic could have used a little more luck, though, as they fell to the lowly Nets to drop to 27-50 on the season.

Vucevic isn't to blame for the loss, however - he finished the contest with 27 points and 11 rebounds. He only had one assist, but with passes like the one he attempted to make to Gordon, that's understandable.

Robin Lopez finished with a game-high 30 points to lead the Nets to just their 17th victory of the season. At 17-59, Brooklyn is by far the worst team in the NBA this year.

Orlando, though nine games ahead of Brooklyn in the standings, is the second-worst squad in the East, one game behind the Philadelphia 76ers and two behind the floundering New York Knicks. The race to tank for a better draft pick is heating up between those three teams and will be something to keep an eye on down the stretch.

For the season, Vucevic is averaging 14.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game for the Magic. He has two more years remaining on his contract, but if the Magic continue to struggle next year, he could find himself on a new squad before next season's trade deadline.

And for those of you wondering if Gordon, a two-time Slam Dunk Contest participant, ever got to throw down one of his famous jams, worry not. Shortly after Vucevic's botched attempt, Gordon was on the receiving end of this impressive reverse alley-oop:

Gordon finished the loss to the Nets with an impressive 22 points, 15 rebounds and five assists - and one highlight-reel dunk.
