Liverpool just love playing Everton, don’t they? The Toffees haven’t won at Anfield since 1999 and lost their third consecutive match against their city rivals on Saturday, falling to a 3-1 defeat. No matter who is lining up for Liverpool, it seems they just have that physiological edge over their rivals. One player that has played in more Merseyside derbies than most, though, is Lucas Leiva.Liverpool’s longest serving player has found starts hard to come by this season but played 90 minutes at Anfield on Saturday and produced a brilliant performance to cut off the supply to Romelu Lukaku. And, having been at the club since 2007, the Brazilian knows only too well how important these matches are for Liverpool fans. After Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Everton 1-0 back in December thanks to Sadio Mane’s late goal, Lucas took to Instagram to use his catchphrase.“‘Win the Derby in the last minute I just have one word to say. #get #in UNLUCKYYYYY.’”And Lucas was in equally jubilant mood after his side triumphed 3-1 last weekend.Tunnel Cam shows the Liverpool players entering the dressing room following the victory and Lucas loudly shouts: “Get in lads, yeahhhh!”

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool fans are thoroughly enjoying it on Twitter with the loyal servant clearly showing his passion for the club. Check out their reaction:

Whether Lucas will still be a Liverpool player come next season remains to be seen. The 30-year-old’s contract expires in 2018 but he has already admitted that he may seek a new challenge as he enters the final few years of his career.

“I have always been very honest in terms of the trust with him,” he said.

“I had a few options to go. I have to think about my long-term. I know I don’t have many years left here.

“I have to start to think about it. Liverpool is a place I love, there is no doubt about that.

“But this is more about thinking about my future as well. Game time, things like I this. I have to deal with it.”

While he may not the most talented player in the squad, Liverpool fans will no doubt be very sad when Lucas does eventually leave the club.
