Russell Westbrook did it again (as if that was a surprise). In his seventh-straight triple-double, the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar point guard dominated the Milwaukee Bucks in a 110-79 victory. While his point total was well below his typical NBA-leading output with just 12 on 4-of-12 shooting, he added 13 rebounds and 13 assists in just 27 minutes on the court. It’s safe to assume that those numbers would have been inflated if the game was close. At halftime, Oklahoma City held a 63-39 lead. Therefore, Westbrook wasn’t asked to do much in the second half, which allowed him to take a much-needed rest on the bench. With the performance, he tied Oscar Robertson’s amazing record of 41 triple-doubles on the season. Considering the number of ultra-talented and athletic players around the NBA, it's simply one of the most impressive individual sports feats in recent memory.

While most NBA fans expected Westbrook’s numbers to take a jump after Kevin Durant bolted out of town in free agency, to assume that he would challenge this record, which as stood the test of time since the 1961-1962 season, would have been farfetched at the time.

But, here we are.

A lob to Taj Gibson early in the third quarter resulted in the final assist needed to make history. Check out the crowd’s reaction:

Accomplishing the task in front of his home fans must have been extra-special for the incredibly talented Brodie.

Additionally, Westbrook set an NBA record in the process.

A streak of seven-straight triple-doubles is impressive enough, but two in the same season is just absurd.

But, he’s not done yet.

His season averages of 31.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game with just five games remaining in the regular season makes him a near lock to achieve a season-long triple-double.

He needs just 19 assists over the next five games (assuming that he takes the floor in all of them) in order to achieve that task, which is arguably even more impressive than the mark of 41 individual triple-doubles this year.

Unfortunately for Thunder fans, the next four games are on the road, as they’re slated to take on the Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves. They will return for one final home game in the regular season finale against the Denver Nuggets on April 12.

At this point, there’s no reason to assume that Westbrook won’t break Big O’s record with his 42nd triple-double on Wednesday in Memphis.
