Bastian Schweinsteiger left Manchester United last month, moving to MLS side Chicago Fire after spending two years at Old Trafford.

The German did not play regularly under Jose Mourinho this season, who demoted the World Cup winner to training with the under-23 team at the start of the campaign.

He only made four appearances under the Portuguese manager but was given a great reception by fans when he came off the bench in an FA Cup game against Reading in January.

He also scored in the next round of the cup after making a very rare start. It was his only goal at Old Trafford.

Many fans disagreed with Mourinho over how he dealt with Schweinsteiger's situation, especially after the public criticism he made about the player last year.

Since moving to Chicago, the 32-year-old has already made an impact. He made his debut last weekend against Montreal Impact and scored his first goal.

Schweinsteiger's already proving that class is permanent.

Mourinho has also since revealed that he "regrets" the way he treated the German during his time at the club, but did try to make amends with the player before he left for America.

Details have also been released regarding the financial side of Schweinsteiger's exit.

According to German paper Bild, as per 101 Great Goals, Schweinsteiger was paid an incredible €7 million compensation to leave his contract early.

That should certainly soften the blow of being left out of the United squad earlier this season.

Schweinsteiger is expected to feature for Chicago again this weekend when they host the Columbus Crew at home. They're only four games into the season and have won one, drawn two and lost one.

The German's impact may help his side climb up towards the top of the MLS Eastern Conference, they're currently in seventh place.

Mourinho could certainly use a player like Schweinsteiger in his prime. United are currently fifth in the Premier League after drawing against Everton on Tuesday night.

It was the team's 12th draw in 20 games and leaves United struggling to make it into the Champions League next season.
