Real Madrid face the lowly Leganes at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night in what represents another test of their title credentials.

Los Blancos are currently top of La Liga and two points clear of Barcelona, who are their closest challengers but have played a game more.

Victory over Leganes would pile even more pressure on Barca - who take on fourth-placed Sevilla at the Camp Nou - to catch up as the business end of the season looms.

However, in the build-up to Real's game at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque, reports have revealed Zinedine Zidane has left Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale out of his squad.

The reason behind their absence is simple: Real take on Atletico Madrid in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday before travelling to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Zidane has deemed the games against Atletico and Bayern as more important than Leganes who, realistically, shouldn't pose too much of a problem.

Any potential concerns that Ronaldo is injured were quelled by Zidane during a pre-match press conference, where he said: "I think he is going to finish the season like never before.

"I never know because he also ended other years very well, but he's very good physically and I hope he will end [the season] very well."

Real confirmed that Ronaldo and Bale will be rested for Wednesday's game by revealing the squad to face Leganes on Twitter (see below).

What Los Blancos probably didn't anticipate, though, was a response from their opponents.

In the below tweet, Leganes hilariously replied to Real's tweet by asking what they should do with the Ronaldo-inspired artwork their designers created for the game.

"#AyMiMadre and what do we do with this poster now? 😂😂😂" said Leganes, whose poster described Ronaldo as an extra-terrestrial like ET and Spock.

Brilliant. Lega head into the game as huge underdogs given Real have won four of their last five away games in La Liga.

Their last defeat away from home came against Valencia in February, which was only their second of the season.

But nothing less than victory will suffice for Zidane's men. Should they lose and Barcelona beat Sevilla, they'll drop into second and one point behind, albeit with a game in hand.
