Everton missed the chance to reclaim fifth place in the Barclays Premier League while Tottenham inched closer to Europe after a goalless draw at Goodison Park.

But it was an unsatisfactory conclusion for both teams, and Everton's second goalless home game in succession.

Everton youngster Dan Gosling came closest to breaking the deadlock with a second-half effort against the post after Spurs had dominated much of the early play.
