Watch: Bubba Watson's epic putt

The day wasn’t all that spectacular though for Watson (story of his season so far – he’s only reached a high of ninth place this season in seven other tournaments), who finished two over and left with a tied 26th position on the leaderboard with an overall score of 74 for day one.

This early round blip largely came from five bogeys but his consistent ten pars which give him confidence going into round two.

His putting is extraordinary and so is his choice of colour

Of course, Bubba Watson is known for standing out – not just with his putting but also with his choice of attire and equipment. He has previous worn a pink glove and used a pink club on the circuit, leading to many fans wondering what the significance is.

Well now Watson has gone one better and produced a pink ball in the first round of this year’s Masters to become the first player ever to use a pink ball. The Mirror reported that Watson gave an explanation for his use of the brightly coloured ball, which first appeared at the SBS Tournament of Champions earlier this year.

Watson said: “Why would you not want people to have more fun, make the game more fun, interesting and creative?” He later went on to add, “Let’s challenge ourselves to make something that’s really off the wall, that’s still playable.”

Hoffman leads the pack after day one

Elsewhere, American Charley Hoffman ends day one of the Masters at the top of the leaderboard, with a four stroke lead thanks to nine birdies. He is seven-under-par 65. Just behind in second place is William McGirt with three-under-par, followed closely by third placed, two-under-par Lee Westwood.

It's safe to say, Watson has some work to do.
