Rumours surrounding the future of Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal have been flying recently.

The Gunners are well and truly out of the title race and are even struggling to secure Champions League football for next season.

They're currently fifth in the Premier League table, four points behind Manchester City, but they do have a game in hand.

Arsene Wenger has been unable to inspire his team for much of this campaign, and it looks like he's going out without much of a bang - if he is to leave in the summer as expected.

As league success looks unlikely for Arsenal this year, fans will be hoping Wenger can leave them with one last present.

The future of star winger Sanchez is uncertain, but fans are desperate for him to sign another contract. His current one runs out next summer.

London rivals Chelsea are interested in snapping up the 28-year-old, and reports suggest Antonio Conte has made Sanchez his top target.

However, Wenger is confident the Chilean will stay in north London.

"Basically, he wants to stay at the club and it’s down to finding an agreement with his agent," he said, per the Mirror.

Wenger also added:

"The players first have to see if they are happy at the club, then they have to find an agreement."

Sanchez is willing to stay at Arsenal for another year, but only if the club proves its ambition by buying big in this summer's transfer market.

They have been off the pace this season and often struggled against sides in the top six. Making some major signings would certainly ensure Arsenal can challenge the big clubs in crunch fixtures next term.

However, this could backfire if the Gunners fail to find success with Sanchez next season because if he refuses to sign a new contract, he will go on a free transfer in 2018.

The winger has been his club's star man again this season, scoring 18 goals in 27 games, as well as getting nine assists.

Without Champions League football next season, Sanchez will feel his talent is being wasted at Arsenal. However, if he can help his side win the FA Cup, silverware and the taste of domestic success may tempt him to stay for at least one more season, if not more.
