Sir Alex Ferguson rarely got it wrong in the transfer window but he certainly did with Bebe.

Manchester United paid £7.4 million to sign the Portuguese striker from Vitoria de Guimaraes in 2010.

But United fans should have been concerned from the offset, when Ferguson admitted he had never even watched Bebe in action.

“I didn't see any videos of him, it's the first time,” Ferguson said, per the Daily Mail. “Normally, as in the case of Javier (Hernandez) and Chris (Smalling), I saw plenty of video footage of them.

“You've got to trust your staff at times and our scout in Portugal was adamant we must do something quickly.

“So were one or two other clubs and that's where you have to make quick decisions in life and I'm not too bad about that. I also spoke to Carlos Queiroz (his former assistant at United) about him.

“Sometimes you have to go on an instinct, you look at material. You look at their age and whether they're bringing pace, balance, desire to play and things like that.”

Bebe was a flop

It quickly became clear that Bebe wasn’t about to follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo. He made just seven appearances in his first season and spent the next three out on loan, before United sold him permanently to Benfica in 2014.

Ferguson had confidence in Bebe, though. That’s what he told the forward, anyway.

"Ferguson told me that he saw me as a talented boy and that he felt he could turn me into a great player," Bebe said in 2015, via the Mirror. "He immediately tried to work out my temperament and encourage me.

"I was asking Ferguson if I could play. He told me to keep calm, that I was very young and that opportunities would arrive. I still learned a lot in training from him. I was developing tactically."

He now plays for Eibar

Bebe now finds himself playing in La Liga for Eibar. The 26-year-old has found game time hard to come - he’s started just six games in the league - but was on the scoresheet in last night’s 3-1 win against Las Palmas.

Bebe latched onto a through ball and coolly tucked the ball away. Yet it wasn’t his goal that is worth talking about - it’s what happened afterwards.

Bebe knocks his teammate over

The forward veered to his right to celebrate, where he met a teammate. Instead of getting out of each other’s way, they clattered into one another.

Bebe was fine. His teammate, however, was knocked to the turf. Check the video out below.
