Mick Foley is a beloved figure in the WWE Universe, a shining pillar of an era that made lifelong wrestling fans. 

His run as RAW general manager game to an end heading into WrestleMania 33, with tensions between him and Stephanie McMahon reaching a boiling point. McMahon finally fired him after he attacked Triple H, and off into the sunset he went. 

His time on-screen had to come to a conclusion because he was scheduled to undergo major hip surgery, and his exit means he's officially no longer employed by the WWE. He was never under contract but was paid as a TV performer, according to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline. 

It's an interesting detail but worth noting. Foley has hung around the WWE as a non-wrestler for years, so it's hard to imagine him finding a television home elsewhere. The hardcore legend has serious credibility behind him and is still a great asset to the WWE.

Foley, no longer under contract, also did not plan on attending any of the WWE's WrestleMania week events but did so after Stephanie convinced him. Mick has kept mostly-quiet since his on-screen time came to a conclusion, but did show support for the man taking over his role on RAW.

Kurt Angle has replaced Foley as RAW general manager, and Stephanie is expected to be out of the picture for the time being after taking a table bump at WrestleMania 33. The table has been cleared on RAW, which it direly needed as ratings tanked heading into WrestleMania. 

Foley wrote a lengthy post on his personal Facebook page saying that he thinks Angle was a fantastic pick as RAW general manager. He expects the Olympic Hero to have great chemistry with the talent he's in charge of, and wished him well.

Mick also said he plans on laying low while he recovers from his hip surgery, and that he doesn't plan on discussing WWE programming on his social media channels for the time being. It seems he's ready to take a break from being enveloped in the WWE Universe. 

It's unclear what comes next for Foley aka Mankind aka Dude Love aka Cactus Jack, but it seems unlikely that WWE fans have seen the last of him. He always seems to find his way back, and the WWE remains his true wrestling home. 

It makes sense that the WWE wouldn't continue paying him as he's not contributing behind the scenes or on-camera, but it is bittersweet to know it could be some time before we see Foley emerge again.
