You could say Bubba Watson hasn't been a happy bunny recently. The man with the pink golf balls saw red as he was sent packing from Augusta, missing the cut for the first time in his career. His second round started badly with four bogeys, continuing his poor form in recent tournaments, before picking it up with two consecutive birdies. However, he struggled to keep this form throughout the remainder of his round, with three more bogeys in his final five holes.Clearly frustrated at this recent shortcoming, the multiple PGA tournament winner took a dig at the media in a failed attempt at witty humour:“Golf is tough; I don’t know if you’ve ever played it. But writing articles is easy.”

Wow, shots fired. But like your golf, you kinda missed the hole there, Watson.

This caused quite a stir on Twitter, as commentator Gene Sapakoff and others reacted to the 'bad joke' that Watson pulled.

Watson apologises

The 34-year-old American later took to Twitter to apologise and explain himself for that joke, stating that he 'loves' journalists, but maintained his ambiguous stance overall in an awkward public relations episode for the veteran golfer.

At least he's not doing a Russell Crowe and throwing a telephone (or golf club in this case) at anyone...

What's happening at the Masters?

While it was a bad day for him, it was a much better day for golf overall, as there is a four-way tie for the lead going into the weekend.

Sergio Garcia, Rickie Fowler, Thomas Pieters and Charley Hoffman are all equal on -4, as Hoffman's early advantage was reduced to nothing in one day.

Rory McIlroy, who was looking to capitalise on World No. 1 Dustin Johnson's withdrawal from the tournament, was only on +1 going into the weekend.

The Masters continues in Augusta over the next two days. Would be interesting if they ask Watson to commentate, to be honest...
