Chelsea fans could probably be forgiven for wondering why Antonio Conte was so adamant on bringing Marcos Alonso to the club with him last summer.

After all, this is a player that couldn't cut the mustard at Bolton a few years ago, and he'd hardly set Serie A alight since moving there.

However, the manager obviously saw something in him that was worth following up, and his decision to bring him to the club has proved to be a masterstroke.

So far this season the Spaniard has found the net five times, which is a pretty decent haul for a full-back, let alone one who fans weren't sure of to begin with.

And his fifth goal, which came during Saturday afternoon's 3-1 win over Bournemouth, was an example of how to take the perfect free kick.

The Blues were already 2-1 up going into the second half, and though they never looked out of control of the game, there was a danger that the hosts could make a break and pull a sneaky equaliser out the bag.

So when Chelsea were awarded a free kick with just over 20 minutes remaining, both Alonso and David Luiz stood over the ball debating about who would take it.

Given its position, Luiz stepped aside to let the natural left footer have a crack and it turned out to be the right decision as Alonso sent the ball top bins with an outstanding curling effort.

It's a screamer, eh?

The goal ensured Chelsea would come away from the Vitality Stadium with all three points, and thus extending their lead over Spurs at the top of the table back to seven points.

Perhaps the most amazing thing about Conte winning the Premier League during his first season wouldn't be that he is a newcomer to the English top flight, but that he managed to do it with Alonso and Victor Moses as his wing backs.

They say stranger things have happened, but on paper that would be an incredible feat.
