Manchester United’s class told at the Stadium of Light as they hammered David Moyes’ relegation-threatened Sunderland side 3-0.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke the deadlock with an excellent strike midway through the first half before Sunderland were reduced to 10 men prior to the interval when Seb Larsson was shown a straight red card.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan then doubled United’s advantage shortly after the restart, while Marcus Rashford added gloss to the scoreline by netting a late third.

A few minutes before Rashford’s goal, United fans on Twitter noticed a very amusing moment between Jose Mourinho and Michael Carrick, who was an unused substitute against the Black Cats.

The United supporters inside the ground were paying tribute to cult hero Diego Forlan, who will forever be remembered fondly by the Red Devils’ faithful after his two goals against Liverpool at Anfield in December 2002, with one of their chants when Mourinho turned to Carrick and appeared to ask him who ‘Diego’ was.

Now, we now Mourinho didn’t arrive in England until the summer of 2004 - when Forlan departed Old Trafford for Villarreal - but he should know that the Uruguayan forward had a rather disappointing two-year spell with his current employers during the early-2000s.

Given that Forlan isn’t football’s most famous Diego, it’s possible that Mourinho thought the United supporters were singing about Maradona for some strange reason.

But nope, it was about Forlan.
