Although he’s yet to introduce the Broken universe to the WWE, there’s still plenty of excitement surrounding Matt Hardy’s return to the company after months of speculation. The Hardy Boyz made their official return to WWE at WrestleMania 33 in the most emphatic of ways, when the New Day revealed that they were the surprise fourth team in the RAW tag team championship ladder match – and they only went on to win the whole thing.

BROKEN GIMMICK

The only negative surrounding this whole thing is the legal battle he’s currently embroiled in with Anthem, the owners of Impact Wrestling.

Impact believes they own the Broken gimmick and want a cut of the profits, should WWE opt to use the gimmick in the future.

They’re not using it right now, and they’re letting The Hardys figure the situation out themselves rather than ending up in a court battle, even if they would perhaps win it, which means it could still happen in the future – just not right now.

Despite that, Matt is looking ahead and has taken to Twitter to reveal his lofty ambitions for the year ahead.

It all started when WWE’s Twitter account posted a video from 2005 where Vince McMahon re-signed Matt to a contract, much to the frustration of Edge and Lita, as that’s the storyline that was going on at that time.

THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM

He seemed to be in a reflective mood when he was made aware of the tweet, taking fans on a quick trip down memory lane before hinting that he plans on becoming world champion in 2017.

He tweeted: “Debuted in WWE in 1994. First started full time in 1998. Second stint, this video, was in 2005. The third time’s the charm in 2017.”

While Jeff has tasted singles success during his time in WWE as a two-time World Heavyweight Champion and a one-time WWE Champion, Matt has only managed to become World Champion when he was part of the ECW brand.

The old Matt perhaps would have never been in this conversation, but the highly acclaimed Broken gimmick is the reason fans wanted him back in WWE, and it could definitely help him get to that level down the road.

Although he’s not Broken yet, he’s teased on Twitter that it will take time, or at least a reason to become Broken in WWE – so maybe fans shouldn’t lose hope on the character being in WWE and if it all goes well, he may even have one of the two major titles around his waist soon.
