Russell Westbrook had a pretty nice Sunday afternoon. After narrowly missing out on what would have been an NBA-record 42nd triple-double of the season in each of his last two games, Westbrook not only made history, but did so in style against the Denver Nuggets, who were in desperate need of a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.Going 17-of-32 from the floor and 5-of-12 from beyond the arc, Westbrook dropped 50 points and added 16 rebounds and 10 assists. However, the final three points of the game were the most remarkable of the bunch.Take a look at how he earned them.

He was closer to the half court line than he was to the three-point line. He borrowed a page out of Steph Curry's book.

It was Westbrook’s first buzzer-beater of his career and ended Denver’s playoff hopes in heartbreaking fashion in front of their home fans.

Westbrook’s celebration after nailing the incredible catch-and-shoot heave was also incredibly impressive.

He nearly jumped out of the building!

Westbrook scored the Thunder’s last 15 points of the game. He also outscored the entire Nuggets team down the stretch by a wide margin, stealing the victory from the home squad.

It was Westbrook’s NBA-record third 50-point triple-double of his career and was also the fourth go-ahead field goal in the final 10 seconds of games this year.

If that doesn’t help his MVP case, nothing will.

After the game, Westbrook took to Twitter and continued the trending hashtag “#WhyNot”.

His post-game comments after the game also conveyed how blessed he felt, as he felt the love from both Thunder fans and general NBA fans on the road as well throughout his journey.

"Very, very blessed. I've got to give all the thanks from the man above," Westbrook said. "He's blessed me with unbelievable talent to go out and compete at a high level. I'm just thankful for my teammates, for my coaching staff, for the organization, for all the fans, for my family for believing in me and allowing me to do what I'm doing.”

The triple-double was the 79th of his career, which put him ahead of an NBA legend in the record books.

Anytime anyone passes Wilt Chamberlain, it’s impressive.

Of the many NBA players and sports figures who took to Twitter to offer their congratulations, a pair of Cleveland Cavaliers were first to the party.

It’s easy to see that he earned the respect from every player (except from maybe a few on the Warriors) in the league this season for his historic on-court feats.

"It was pure adrenaline, emotions running high, game-winning shot," noted Westbrook, who will send the game ball and his uniform to his parents, as reported by Tim MacMahon of ESPN. "It's something you dream about as a little kid to be able to do that on the road, especially from that distance. It's something that you'll definitely never forget.”

This is not only a game that he won’t forget, but it’s a season as a whole that will go down in NBA history as one of the most phenomenal displays of consistency and dominance ever recorded.
