Amir Khan has announced that he hopes to have a big fight later in the year.

Khan has not had a fight since his defeat to Canelo Alvarez in May of last year.

However, back in January there was talk of Khan fighting Filipino Manny Pacquiao in Abu Dhabi or the UAE later this year, however that fell through before it truly got off the ground.

An Olympic silver medallist from the Athens Games in 2004, Khan has endured a difficult time since turning pro. The Briton lost to Lamont Peterson in December 2011 and then to Danny Garcia in July 2012, costing the boxer his IBF and WBA titles.

The 30-year-old underwent hand surgery last year and has only been back training for four months, though the boxer claims that his hand is now fine.

“To give an update, I’ve just arrived back in the UK after spending nearly four months in training camp in San Francisco," Khan said, via Boxing News.

“Training with Virgil Hunter and Tony Brady has gone great and I’ve had the chance to work and focus on a lot of things that I wanted to.

“I’ve been able to see how my hand has responded in camp since my operation on it late last year. It’s felt very good and I’ve not had any problems with it, which I’m pleased about.

“That was my main reason for trying to get a tune up fight before Ramadan, so that I could test out my hand. Because it’s responded so well to some hard sparring and in the gym, day-after-day, I’m now looking to get a bigger fight after Ramadan,” the Briton said.

Khan’s bitter family feud

Any news of a potential fight would be welcome, especially as the 30-year-old has been involved in a bitter family feud, which became public knowledge in January.

As a result Khan sacked his dad Shah, who had been a constant presence in Khan's corner since the boxer’s amateur days, his uncle Taz and childhood friend, Saj Mohammed.

Although no bouts have been scheduled as of yet, Khan is determined as ever that a big fight will happen, and is optimistic that he will win another title before his career is over.

Big fight expected

“I’ve spoken with Al Haymon and there are several big fights out there which we’re working on, which I’m sure you’ll all love," Khan continued.

“I want to give fans the biggest and most meaningful fights rather than just any opponent. I’m feeling good and at just 30 my aim and focus is to win another world title.

“In the meantime, I’m going to keep training while I’m back home and look forward to announcing some big news soon.”

Here’s hoping that Khan will be back in the ring soon.
