Missing a penalty is one of the most embarrassing things you can do on a football pitch.

Beating a goalkeeper from 12 yards out sounds like a relatively easy thing to do but, as we've seen down the years, that's far from the case.

One of the worst penalties ever taken came during a match between Arsenal and Manchester City in the 2005/06 Premier League season.

Robert Pires was tasked with converting the spot kick but rather than shoot, he attempted to roll the ball to Thierry Henry in a pre-rehearsed routine - and it backfired.

The Frenchman fluffed his lines and his pass barely moved off the penalty spot after brushing the top of the ball with his studs.

More recently, Bournemouth's Harry Arter produced a contender for worst penalty miss of the season when he found row Z with a terrible attempt against Southampton.

Both perfect examples of bad penalties, but neither compare to the humiliation Oscar went through for Shanghai SIPG against Urawa Red Diamonds in the AFC Champions League today.

Quite incredibly, the former Chelsea midfielder missed TWO penalties in the space of 11 minutes in the 1-0 defeat.

For the first, in the 65th minute after a stuttered run up, Oscar fired too close to the goalkeeper's left and saw his effort saved on to the crossbar.

As for his second - well, it was terrible. The Brazilian tried too hard to make amends for his previous miss and blazed his shot over.

Check out his double blunder below at 1:32 and 2:01.

TWO PENALTIES; TWO MISSES; 11 MINUTES

How embarrassing. Perhaps Oscar should stick to helping his own goalkeeper save penalties after he heroically pointed which way the taker would shoot in February.

During a win over Seoul in the same competition, the Brazil international gestured to the goalkeeper's right and, sure enough, he saved the penalty.
