Greg Abbott is optimistic over Carlisle`s future and believes his side can challenge at the top end of League One next term.

United finished one point clear of relegation this term, but Abbott is certain a couple of additions to his squad can lead to a radical improvement.

"It is an exciting time for us because some of the names that we have on our radar, if we can get them in and persuade them that this is the right club, will be good signings for us," Abbott told the club`s official website.

"The distance between us and the top teams was minimal at times and we have to build on that. But the line between success and failure is unbelievably tight.

"What we have to make sure is that we make our own luck this time round, and we can do that by adding some more quality to our squad and by working hard from the moment we get back together."
