Luis Suarez and Giorgio Chiellini went head-to-head for the first time since the infamous biting scandal at the 2014 World Cup during last night’s Champions League encounter between Barcelona and Juventus.Three years is a long time but it was always going to be interesting to see how the pair interacted. After all, Suarez was banned for nine international matches and for four months of club football following the incident. It had an impact on Suarez’s personal life, too. In an interview with Sport earlier this year, the Uruguayan admitted he lied to his wife about the bite, denying it happened when she asked him.“It hurt a lot," Suarez said, via the Mirror. "[My kids] kept asking me why I wasn't playing. To be honest, it really hurt. Above all because I am not like that, I am a softy and my family know that."My kids know that their dad is a human being and he makes mistakes and they know anyone can make mistakes."I hurt Sofia because I lied to her. She asked me [about the bite] and I denied it. I had trouble believing it, let alone saying it. I couldn't understand it. I hurt her because she knew I wasn't like that. [The press] even asked her how I was at home.

"They could have been thinking anything. And that hurts. Everyone has their way of playing, their character. If I wasn't as I am, I wouldn't have arrived where I here [Barcelona]."

Suarez struggled vs Juventus

For a player who has been involved in three biting incidents in his career, Suarez’s reputation should probably be worse than it is. But he’s helped fans forget about his mistakes with some terrific performances for Barcelona.

Against Juventus though, Suarez was quiet. He squandered a great opportunity to score an away goal when Lionel Messi put him through and was given a one-star rating by Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

On the other hand, Chiellini enjoyed a brilliant night. The Italian defender helped Gianluigi Buffon keep a clean sheet and scored Juve’s third goal, heading home from Miralem Pjanic’s corner in the second half.

How Suarez and Chiellini interacted

There was no animosity between the pair when they came together during the match. Footage shows Suarez and Chiellini shaking hands, with one image showing them standing with their arms wrapped around one another.

Great to see. It’s certainly a better sight than Suarez’s first meeting with Patrice Evra after he was found guilty of racially abusing the Manchester United defender in 2011.
