There has been some pretty incredible goals scored in Premier League history down the years.

Think of Dennis Bergkamp’s incredible turn and finish against Newcastle, Wayne Rooney’s amazing overhead kick in the Manchester Derby or how about Paolo di Canio’s unique volley for West Ham against Wimbledon?

But another goal that has every right to be used in the same sentence as the aforementioned trio is Papiss Cisse’s goal for Newcastle against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge back in 2012.

The ball fell to the Newcastle striker 25-yards out and he struck and unbelievable shot with the outside of his foot that swerved and sailed over Petr Cech into the far top corner.

It was incredible.

Someone else that thought it was incredible was Didier Drogba.

Drogba may have been lining up for the opposition but, after seeing a fellow African score one of the best goals in the history of the Premier League, he couldn’t hide his amazement.

The camera pans to the Ivorian who has a chat with Newcastle boss Alan Pardew. He then shakes his head in disbelief before clapping.

Drogba's reaction to Cisse's goal

Brilliant:

And Pardew revealed what he actually said to Drogba after the goal had gone in.

“I said ‘come on Didier, you have to admire that’ and he just laughed,” he said.

Cisse’s strike helped Newcastle triumph 2-0 against Chelsea as they attempted to finish in the top-four during the 2011/12 season.

However, despite Cisse’s 13 goals that campaign, Newcastle finished fifth, four points adrift of Tottenham.

Incidentally, even if they had finished fourth, they wouldn’t have qualified for the Champions League thanks to Chelsea winning the competition, costing Spurs - who finished fourth themselves - a place in Europe’s elite competition.
