It has been quite the 24 hours for Marc Bartra.

Tuesday must have felt like any other day as he and his Borussia Dortmund teammates prepared for their Champions League quarter-final clash with Monaco.

Only it turned out to be far from a normal day for Bartra and co. as they were caught up in a frightening ordeal on their way to the Signal Iduna Park.

Three explosions damaged the team bus just six miles away from the Westfalenstadion, forcing the match to be postponed and the footballing world to hold its breath as details emerged.

Luckily, Bartra was the only person to sustain any serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment on his arm.

It was later revealed that the Spanish centre-back suffered a fractured wrist - which required surgery - and various cuts as a result of the broken glass.

Pictures of Dortmund's bus show just how severe the explosions and it really is truly remarkable how no one was more seriously hurt.

German police have been conducting their investigations over the last 24 hours and made an arrest on Wednesday in connection to the suspected terrorist attack.

In the meantime, Thomas Tuchel's side must try to put last night's events to the back of their mind with a place in the last four of the Champions League at stake.

Of course, Bartra will not be involved in the rearranged encounter but has provided a positive update on his progress on Instagram.

With his injured hand in a cast, the 26-year-old wrote: "Hello everybody! As you can see I am doing much better.

"Thank you everybody for all your support and your messages! All my strength to my team mates, supporters and fans and to BVB for tonight's match! #HejaBVB"

There's no doubt Bartra had a lucky escape and it is brilliant to see him in such good spirits after the traumatic ordeal.

A spokeswoman for the German Federal Criminal Police Office revealed the full extent of the damage of the bus.

"These explosives contained metal shards - we can be happy that nothing worse happened," Frauke Kohler said, as per The Independent.

"One of the metal shards in the explosive remained lodged in a seat headrest. It could have been worse.

"Two suspects from the Islamist spectrum have become the focus of our investigation. Both of their apartments were searched, and one of the two has been detained.

"We are treating this incident as a terrorist attack," before adding, "an Islamic background is possible."

Hopefully tonight's first leg can pass by without any further incidents.
