Leeds chief executive Shaun Harvey is set to make a new contract offer to top scorer Jermaine Beckford.
Beckford`s current deal has 12 more months to run but his agent Nick Rubery revealed earlier this week that he would like a new contract despite the club`s failure in the League One play-offs.
"In simple terms it's not for Jermaine's agent to decide when Jermaine is contracted to us for a further 12 months," Harvey told the club's official website. "I spoke with Jermaine Beckford's agent on Wednesday and we will be forwarding the offer of a new contract now we know which division we will be playing in next season."
He added: "It's unfortunate that a choice appears to have been made to discuss contract negotiations in public via the media and I'd be disappointed if any Leeds fans interpreted what has been attributed to his agent as Jermaine's desire to leave.
"I understand Jermaine's desire to have his future resolved and know what the future holds for him but I think there's plenty of time to resolve this matter over the summer.
"Having seen Jermaine's reaction at the end of last Thursday night when he was virtually inconsolable, that didn't look like a reaction of a player who is desperate to get away from a football club."
