Even three years later, that infamous slip from Steven Gerrard will still be giving a few die-hard Liverpool fans nightmares. The race for the Premier League was in Liverpool's hands until their legendary captain lost his footing at the worst possible moment during a match against Chelsea to allow Demba Ba to open the scoring.Gerrard and co. failed to recover from that setback and ended up losing 2-0, handing control of the title race over to Manchester City.Once a favourite at Anfield, Fernando Torres actually had a hand in dealing the killer blow to his former team by unselfishly squaring a ball to Willian for the Blues' second goal.Having grown close to Gerrard during his three-and-a-half years on Merseyside, the Spaniard has revealed his contrast of emotions at watching the best chance his friend has had to win a title slip right from underneath him.In an interview with BBC Sport, the Spanish striker admitted that Gerrard was the best player he ever played with and he had felt sorry for him at the manner of his costly error."He's everything I need on the pitch altogether in one player," Torres said."I was a big fan of Stevie before I went to Liverpool but playing with him was much better than I was expecting, it was amazing.

"By far the best player I've played with and I would pay to play with him again.

"I felt so sorry for Stevie because we didn't have chances to win the Premier League and Liverpool were so close and I know how important it is for Liverpool to win the Premier League after so many years.

"It was so unfair for Stevie. A person who really deserved more to win the Premier League but that's football, in one second everything changed."

A nice touch from Torres, who hasn't exactly been a popular figure at Anfield ever since he left to join Chelsea in 2011.

While Gerrard is now focusing on his coaching career and will take charge of Liverpool's U18s next season, Torres is still chipping in with the odd goal for Atletico Madrid.

The 33-year-old has found the back of the net seven times so far this term but missed a great chance to add an eighth against Leicester on Wednesday.

Torres was preparing to strike home from the edge of the box when - like Gerrard - he lost his footing at the crucial point, forcing his shot to fly out for a throw in.

At least he's now got a bit of a taste for what Gerrard felt now too!
