Lionel Messi was outshone during Barcelona's 3-0 defeat against Juventus on Tuesday night - by none other than the man tipped to replace him at the top.

Paulo Dybala's 15-minute brace, adding to Giorgio Chiellini's header in the second half, meant Juve took a comfortable lead into the return leg at the Camp Nou next week.

So impressive was the 23-year-old in Turin that he's now been rewarded with a new £110,000-per-week contract that will keep him at the club until 2022.

After committing his future to Juventus, Dybala said: "I'm very happy and proud to be at this club. It's difficult to imagine that so many positive things could happen all at once.

"This is a week full of special emotions for me. I'm extremely happy with what I have managed to achieve, and what I'm going to with this team, this club and these fans.

"I'm grateful for these compliments, but I think it's still early days. I've a lot to achieve still. I want to keep working hard playing as well as I can and lifting trophies with this club.

"I believe this contract renewal comes at the right time - a time in which we are playing well and I hope to keep entertaining on the field, showing what I can do and winning many titles over the coming years.

"Onwards and upwards, forza Juve."

It was only a matter of time before Dybala was handed a new deal at Juventus, in truth, given he was only on £35,000-per-week before hand.

His new contract has been a big talking point in the media this week, but there's also been a lot of commotion about the boots he wore against Barcelona.

Fans noticed how the Argentine was sporting all-black boots at the Juventus Stadium, with only his personalised logo emblazoned on the side.

Well, the reason behind his odd - but classy - choice of footwear has been revealed. According to the Daily Mail, Dybala, somehow, is currently without a boot deal.

Dybala's previous sponsorship deal with Nike expired in February and, for one reason or another, it wasn't extended, explaining why he had to wear plain black boots against Barca.

The boots he wore were an old pair of Nike Mercurial Superfly V, but he had them blackened out and his personal logo - which is modelled on his mask celebration - added to the side.

What's bizarre is why Nike decided against renewing their sponsorship deal with Dybala, who is currently one of the most marketable players in world football.

However, it's also been reported that Adidas are keen to sponsor the striker.
