In case you weren’t aware of it beforehand, Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward really don't like each other.

Who can blame them? Krusher believes he deserved the victory when they met in November, while Ward claims to be tired of the excuses the Russian is coming up with for that loss.

TRASH TALK

Regardless of that, the hard-hitting Russian has a chance to settle scores in their highly anticipated rematch which takes place in June and as expected, the trash talk has already begun.

A quick look through Kovalev’s Twitter feed will tell you all you need to know in regards to what he thinks of the Son of God – or Son of Judges as he likes to call him – but now he’s claimed that he overrated Ward before their first clash, and showed him too much respect.

Kovalev does have a strong case, as their first fight was too close to call, with many claiming his knockdown of Ward was perhaps enough to hand him a close decision, but clearly, Ward didn’t see it go down like that.

OVERRATED

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, as you’ll be able to see below, he claims he felt like he worked out a lot for no reason.

He said: “I want to prove to people who believed in his victory that they are wrong.

“I like to disappoint people who don’t believe in me. I turn them to my side after each fight. I overrated the guy before the fight. When I get in the ring, I was surprised. Why I did a lot of workouts for the fight. I could have had more fun in my training camp.

“Belts are like a magnet, but they’re not his belts. He’s not a real champion in my eyes.”

He then spoke to secondscout.com, and strangely compared his American rival to a fish.

He added: “He’s like a fish. To me, he’s like a fish. He’s now trying to push everybody to believe in him. He lost my respect. I can even be drunk and get a victory over Andre Ward. No, it’s not true. I can’t drink, I care about my health.

“He knows he lost the fight. He knows and everybody knows. His fans and his family believe in his victory, right now, he’s pushing everybody to believe in his victory. Come on, it’s not like that.”

It’s clear to see that Ward is the more reserved one during the interviews, even if Kovalev tends not to speak a lot when they’re face to face.

Despite that, it’s obvious that the battle of the trash talk is in Kovalev’s favour by a country mile.

Then again, these sorts of battles aren’t won in interviews or in front of a microphone. Maybe Ward’s game plan of not engaging in a verbal battle could swing in his favour in June.
