Jamie Carragher may have spent his entire professional career as a footballer at Liverpool but he still had the chance to rub shoulders with some of the very best to grace the game.As well as making over 700 appearances across 17 years for the Merseyside club, the formidable centre-back also featured 38 times for his country - a figure that would be much higher had he not been in competition with some of the best defenders England have ever produced.Nevertheless, the pundit had plenty of tough decisions to make when picking a team of players he lined up alongside for Sky Sport's #One2Eleven feature.

GOALKEEPER AND DEFENCE

In goal, Carra considered David Seaman but because of his greater experience playing with Pepe Reina, he picked the Spaniard.

At the back, Carragher dismissed the opportunity to pick his fellow Sky pundit Gary Neville and went for Markus Babbel.

Alongside him, Sami Hyypia, John Terry and Ashley Cole make up the defence.

"Left-back, a very easy one," Carragher said.

"If I'm being totally honest I never played with a great left-back at Liverpool. hope John Arne Riise's not watching!"

"I'm going to go with Ashley Cole, I think he's the best left-back we've seen in the Premier League era."

MIDFIELD

No one will be surprised to see Carragher's old mate Steven Gerrard make the cut, nor Xabi Alonso, who enjoyed five great years at Anfield.

On the right of midfield, the 39-year-old went for ex-Manchester United favourite and former England colleague David Beckham.

Left-midfield was a tougher choice due to a lack of contenders from the England team but John Barnes was eventually given the nod.

"I'm going to go with Steven Gerrard. I think there's always that debate about Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard. I mean, you could easily put the other two in and no one could argue.

"Steven had the edge. He was in the PFA Team of the Year seven or eight times I think it's a record how many times he's been in it.

"I just think the West Ham cup final and what happened in Istanbul I think just edges it for Stevie when he's dragged the team to honours that maybe people felt we weren't capable of."

ATTACK

Now we reach the most intriguing part of Carra's team.

After playing alongside Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler, which two would make the cut?

In the end, he picked Suarez - on how close he almost single-handedly won Liverpool the league in 2014 - and Owen because of his match-winning performance on the big occasion.

"I'm going to go with Michael Owen and the only reason why is because of the cup final in 2001.

"He won us the cup final against Arsenal, the two goals, the Owen final.

"Torres at his best you could argue was better than Michael Owen but he didn't win a trophy at Liverpool.

"Sorry Robbie, sorry Fernando!

"Fernando signed for Chelsea so I'm not too bothered about how he's feeling but sorry Robbie."

Now that really is some team!
