Nobody really has time for the pre-match handshakes, do they? It all seems a bit unnecessary, especially when they do it at the final whistle anyway.

And doing it when you've just won a trophy only adds to the already prolonged sense of anticipation o get your hands on the silverware.

All those bureaucrats that need to congratulate you before you can hoist the trophy aloft in glory, it's likely that nobody even knows who they are.

Except, on this one occasion, one of those handshakers happened to be one of the world's best defenders and most recognisable faces in football.

Gerard Pique and Barcelona teammate Edmilson were invited to participate in the fourth international FCBEscola tournament earlier this week and was in line to shake hands with the young victors at the final whistle.

As we've seen in recent years, the reactions of some of the young mascots when meeting their idols is a joyous sight to behold and reaffirms why so many of us love the sport.

However, one young lad clearly didn't get the memo and gave a coldhearted snub to the former Manchester United stopper as he only had eyes for the trophy that was being handed out.

He took the cup and proceeded to walk away with it, and had to be reminded that there was still one person left to shake hands with, but luckily Pique saw the funny side. See for yourself below.

Pique gave a short speech for those in attendance, highlighting the good work that the club does with its youth and the importance of taking in everything that is on offer from the coaches.

"When I was 10 years old, I started my dream here in Barcelona and 20 years later the club is still continuing to form both players and people with values," he told spectators per Marca.

"I feel proud to be part of this club and I believe that we are the best in using our academy."
