UFC 212 saw Daniel Cormier defend his light heavyweight title against Anthony Johnson in Buffalo, New York on April 8. The champ used a submission in the second-round to retain his title in convincing fashion in front of the world.

During the weigh-in session before the fight, Cormier was in danger of losing the fight before it had even begun as he had to cut weight at the last second before receiving a second attempt to qualify for the match.

It was truly a miraculous scene as DC stepped foot on the scales, saw that he registered at 206.2 pounds and went to the back to remedy that situation. In a crazy turn of events, he ditched an entire pound and some change in less than five minutes.

Some fans were skeptical that the way that Cormier held onto his towel allowed him to make weight by shifting his mass and effectively manipulate the scales. This is a popular theory because there are few ways to get rid of that much weight in such a short amount of time.

Jon Jones has been in a bit of a spat with the champion since that weekend. Cormier took a number of shots at the former champ leading up to UFC 212 and apparently Jones took the fishy circumstances around the weigh-in as a chance to score a blow on DC.

Bones’ Instagram account has a posting that the Cormier is now the official 206.2 pound champion of the world in a burn heard round the internet. The two have some shared history from UFC 182, where Jones beat Cormier for the same championship.

Jones’ one-year suspension for a failed drug test last year is almost over and it looks like he is itching to take another shot at the current champion once that period is over. The other option for him is Jimi Manuwa, who is top-ranked in the division.

Originally, they were supposed to fight at UFC 200 before Jones tested positive for a banned substance. That fight was set to be a huge draw for the entire company and losing Jones was seen as a huge drain on the company as he was a huge star in combat sports.

He recently told many outlets that he intended to come back for his belt and that nothing would stand in the way of his goals after he returned. Right now, all signs point to a collision course between Bones and DC whenever the possibility presents itself.
