Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander believes the versatility of new signing Stephen Reed makes him an ideal addition to his squad.

The 23-year-old joined from Conference side Weymouth having previously spent time with a number of clubs including Torquay and Yeovil.

Alexander believes that Reed has the qualities he is looking for as he bids to revive Macclesfield's fortunes and told his club's official website: "He`s exactly the type of player that I wanted to bring in to replace Ahmed (Deen) on the left side at the back."

He added: "He can play anywhere along the left-hand side as a left-back or in left or central midfield. He`s a very attacking full-back and can play on the wing and he has a fantastic left-foot.

"I wanted that sort of versatility in the squad and when you`re working with a small squad you need to have players who can do that and fill several roles."
