Amir Khan is a boxer who needs to get back in the game...

He hasn't fought since his crushing loss to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in May last year, and has been struggling for an opponent ever since, but not for lack of trying.

After unsuccessfully gunning for a fight with Floyd Mayweather for two years, he entered talks with Manny Pacquiao's camp in February for an alleged 'super fight' to take place in April this year, and both parties confirmed this on Twitter.

But now, the prospect of that fight looks very slim with no date or venue officially confirmed.

According to Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, negotiations for the fight were in too early of a stage for something final to be set in place, and despite moving the date back to May 20, it just wasn't enough time to get ready.

He told Sky Sports: "The point is that this is all so premature. But Manny is not going to fight in April. I don't even know if May is feasible. I haven't even talked to Manny."

"All it is right now is a discussion. It's like somebody saying, 'Hey, let's build a new stadium for the Raiders in Las Vegas.' You can say anything, but we're a long way from it being done."

Clearly disappointed by this, Khan has given his perspective on the whole scenario on boxingnewsandviews.com:

“So basically me and Manny and our teams were speaking for like the last 6 weeks on making the fight happen. The fight didn’t happen because Bob Arum (Pacquiao’s promoter) said that the investors in Dubai or wherever, UAE, couldn’t put the money together and they needed more time. So what we decided was, look fine, we’ll go our own way."

Given that the fight was 'confirmed' in February, it was an extremely hasty prospect, as Khan is still looking for an opponent to fight in May, therefore the two camps parted ways for the time being.

"So I told my manager Al Haymon to find me another fight. So we are looking at fighting again in April or maybe May. In the meanwhile if the Manny Pacquiao fight ever happens – then it’s something we would take.”
