There is no question at this point that Dele Alli is one of the best young footballers in the world.

At just 21-years-old, Spurs may have completed the deal of the century when they snapped up the attacking midfielder from MK Dons for £5 million back in 2015.

After scoring 26 goals in 63 league games - a better ratio than one every three - the England international is attracting attention from the biggest teams in the world.

Spurs have been here before. Real Madrid have managed to prize away Luka Modric and Gareth Bale from them in the past, the latter of which was a world record fee at the time.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to be seriously interested in the youngster now, but Tottenham has different plans this time around.

According to The Mirror, Alli is set to receive his third new contract in the last 16 months that will put him on par with major earners like Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane.

It should double his current £55,000-a-week salary and chairman Daniel Levy is very serious about making Tottenham a European heavyweight.

With the white half of north London moving to their new £750 million new stadium at the start of the 2018-19 season, Levy wants to ensure that they not only keep their key players, but boss Mauricio Pochettino has money to spend on new ones, too.

One fan of Alli's play is Barcelona legend Xavi, and he believes the Spurs man is destined for the top.

“He is very talented, very technical. I can understand why The Tottenham fans are hoping he is the next Paul Gascoigne.

“For me, Gascoigne was an inspiration when I was developing, one of the best midfield players I have ever seen. It is important not to put pressure on Dele with these comparisons - but I can see why fans are excited.

“For him to be at the very top level, he needs to consistently play well and put in big performances against the big clubs both in England in Europe.

"He has the capabilities to be able to do just that.”

Can he do that at Tottenham? Bale and Modric have won the Champions League with Real Madrid since moving, is that what Alli needs to do too?
