There were more than a few raised eyebrows when Jose Mourinho named his team to play Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

With usual regulars being rested - Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the biggest name - Man United fans would have been even more apprehensive about their side's chances against the Premier League's leaders.

And yet the Red Devils were able to turn out one of their best performances of the season to emerge 2-0 victors at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford set the tone of the match early on by breaking onto a fantastic ball from Ander Herrera and calmly dispatching his shot past stand-in goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

In a man of the match performance that also included a strict man-marking job on Eden Hazard, Herrera found time and space to score United's second with a deflected strike from outside the box in the second half.

But Herrera wasn't the only Red Devils player to earn rave reviews as Rashford picked up plenty of praise for his display in Ibrahimovic's absence.

The young England forward gave Chelsea's defence - who have looked impenetrable at times this season - a torrid time throughout the 90 minutes.

David Luiz, in particular, looked frightened of Rashford's pace and there was one phase of play in the second half which just about summed up both sides' performances.

As you can see by skipping to 4:30 in the video below, Rashford drives straight at the Brazilian centre-back and forces him back into his own box.

Initially, Luiz actually does alright by getting his body in the way, only for Rashford to dive around the other side and regain possession - making the Chelsea star look a bit foolish.

The 19-year-old forward almost crowned off the run with a fantastic goal, only to be slightly off-balance when he took his shot which was tamely saved by Begovic.

Gary Neville on commentary even claimed Rashford had turned into Diego Costa for the mazy run and you can see why.

It wasn't such a good day for Costa, however, as he was starved of service and frequently riled up by Marcos Rojo's antics.

But there weren't many Chelsea players to come out of the encounter with much credit and there are now just four points between the Premier League's top two.

With Tottenham closing in, Antonio Conte's men must react quickly to avoid a costly late season collapse in form.
