It’s been a little over five months since UFC fans last saw Conor McGregor in action, where he dethroned Eddie Alvarez to claim the lightweight championship inside of Madison Square Garden, and created history in the process.

Since then, the Notorious has done a fantastic job of ensuring he remains in the headlines – that’s despite not competing inside of the Octagon.

His hiatus from competing resulted in UFC president Dana White stripping him of the featherweight championship, and handing it back to Jose Aldo while Max Holloway claimed the interim version of the belt.

In fact, we could have had an interim lightweight champion now too had Khabib Nurmagomedov not pulled out of his scheduled clash with Tony Ferguson, one day before they were expected to meet.

Currently, all of the talk and focus regarding the Irishman revolves around his potential super fight against the unbeaten boxer, Floyd Mayweather.

Both men have claimed that they want it to happen, and there have been expected hurdles along the way, yet nothing has been made official on that front as fans wait to see whether the 49-0 American can stretch his record to 50 incredible wins.

That has frustrated UFC fans, as his inactivity is clearly having an effect on his division and they could be forced to wait longer should he go ahead and fight Mayweather inside of a boxing ring.

However, based on his recent Instagram post, we should be expecting a fight announcement very soon.

FIGHT ANNOUNCEMENT

McGregor dropped the news relatively quietly while promoting his new ‘Conor McGregor Fast’ programme, which is an exercise system that will allow anyone to adopt a high-level, 12-week fighter conditioning programme developed by some of the world’s leading sports scientists, according to The Mac Life.

Celebrating the launch of the programme, McGregor claimed that he’ll be adopting the system in preparation for his next fight, which he’ll be announcing very soon.

He posted: “My high performance training programme is live NOW! Sign up and join me in the preparation of my next fight being announced very soon! ConorMcGregorfast.com.”

It’s a great way to get fans to sign up with that announcement, but his coach John Kavanagh has already claimed that they’ll return in the summer, which means a fight could be announced soon.

While Mayweather is understandably the best option for him in terms of finances, there are plenty of fighters on the UFC roster that will be waiting for that call to see if they’re in the running to take on the Irishman.

El Cucuy and The Eagle will surely be towards the front of the line, and a third fight with Nate Diaz can’t be ruled out either. Whatever happens in terms of the fight announcement, you can be sure it will be both entertaining and interesting.
