Sunday’s game between the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics was a strange contest because of a lot of the circumstances around it. The basketball action came second to how Isaiah Thomas was dealing with a death in his family.The Celtics star guard lost his 22-year-old sister in a tragic car accident on Saturday, just a day before their playoff opener against Chicago. At tip-off, the scene inside of the TD Garden was electric as they rallied around their 5’9” point guard.After the initial strangeness of having to play in the wake of such a horrible event wore off, things turned back to basketball for a little while. This was the Celtics’ first real test as the number one overall seed in the Eastern Conference.Dwyane Wade provided some early comedy to help lighten the mood when he picked up a steal and made a bee-line for an almost automatic dunk at the rim. Well, the 35-year-old had a little bit of trouble getting lift-off and ended up getting rejected by the rim.Twitter quickly pounced on the three-time champion after that moment of struggle with Father Time. It got so bad that even his wife, actress Gabrielle Union got in on some of the joking and had her own answer for his struggles to throw it down.

Time waits for no one and fans have seen countless stars like Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett sapped by the miles logged late in their careers. In defence of The Flash, he missed the last 11 games of the season with an injury and this was his first game back.

Still, coming up short on a bunny like that on national television can’t feel too good. In the past, Wade has thrown down some of the most ferocious slam dunks in recent memory on defenders much bigger than him with no real problem.

Chicago had no idea of whether or not their big free agency acquisition was going to help at all when they were battling for a playoff spot while he was rehabbing. Having him available at all is playing with house money at this point.

Thankfully for him, the Bulls got a win and lead the series 1-0 and will look to take a commanding lead later this week. Perhaps he will be looking to redeem himself the next time he steps foot on the hardwood.
