Dean Ambrose is on RAW now, thanks to the Superstar Shakeup, and that means that he is now alongside his old teammates who formed The Shield. Both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have enjoyed a higher profile now that the group is no more.

On the other hand, Ambrose has become a bit of an enigma for WWE fans and the writers who have to decide what direction to take his character in. This week, it has come down the pipe that a heel turn is likely on the horizon for him.

Creative’s reason for this turn is in larger service of setting up a feud between The Lunatic Fringe and The Kingslayer at a later date. The two former teammates have had a feud in the past stretching all the way back to their days in NXT.

When news of The Shield’s demise started bubbling, most observers assumed that Ambrose would become a natural heel and hold contrast to Rollins’ babyface character. The writers pulled a clever switch as The Architect ended up being the one pegged for a heel turn.

Rollins sold out to The Authority and The Lunatic Fringe became a champion for the good guys in the company. In a lot of ways, those character decisions still inform their careers today, but this change would see that flipped again as The Kingslayer is primed for a push after Mania.

This decision would give WWE another easily accessible storyline to pull out of its back pocket whenever it became necessary. Something along the lines of the great clashes between AJ Styles and John Cena.

The only reason that a high profile feud like this is even possible is because of the Superstar Shakeup bringing all the pieces of The Shield back under one roof at RAW. Fans shouldn’t expect this development to occur overnight because both superstars are in storylines currently.

Samoa Joe and The Architect are booked for a match at Payback that has been boiling for a few months now. The audience has been waiting for this moment since Joe injured Seth earlier this year and there was even some concern that he would miss WrestleMania 33 with an injury.

With Ambrose, his feud with The Miz is still going on over on the red brand and no one knows how long that will stretch on for. It is far more likely that the Rollins angle will only be introduced leading up to a big event for maximum splash when the time comes.
