Real Madrid must have fancied their chances of making yet another Champions League semi-final ahead of their quarter-final second leg clash against Bayern Munich.Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace at the Allianz Arena helped Madrid to a 2-1 victory to put them very firmly in the driving seat. However, Madrid would have been hoping for an early goal at the Bernabeu to help settle the nerves against the German opponents. And Ronaldo himself had the perfect opportunity to do just that before half-time.After being played through by Luka Madrid, the Portuguese superstar was clear of Jerome Boateng. It was now Ronaldo and Karim Benzema against Mats Hummels. Two vs one. Surely Madrid would capitalise. However, with Benzema waiting for a pass in the middle, Ronaldo went for goal himself, only to see his effort saved.Surely he should have committed Hummels and then made a simple pass to Benzema in the middle?Take a look:
That’s certainly the opinion of Twitter anyway, who slated him for his decision to shoot, rather than pass.

At the time of writing, the score is 2-1 to Bayern meaning Los Blancos and Ronaldo could yet live to regret that moment of selfishness.
However, there obviously can’t be too much blame attached to Ronaldo. After all, it was his two goals that gave Madrid the 2-1 victory in Germany last week and brought up his 100th European goal.
They say all good strikers need to be selfish so we can’t really blame Ronaldo for going for goal.
