Real Madrid v Bayern Munich – it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

It seemed not a minute went by in the Champions League clash without a moment of drama, incident or controversy. After all, there were six goals, a bizarre sending off and one of the funniest own goals you’ll see all season.

Ultimately though, it was the Spaniards leaving with the victory. Despite the need for extra time, Zinedine Zidane’s men secured a 4-2 win that extended their aggregate advantage to a convincing scoreline of 6-3.

Cristiano Ronaldo even bagged himself a hat trick, raising his all time Champions League goal tally to no less than 100. Fortune favoured the brave, however, with both his second and third strikes appearing offside.

As for Arturo Vidal, the Chilean built on his penalty miss from the first leg with a sending off in the second. Quite why the 29-year-old was dismissed and Casermiro wasn’t, is anybody’s guess.

No shortage of drama, hey? Well, two players who seemingly avoided the heat of battle proved Franck Ribery and Luka Modric.

The Frenchman and Croat, respectively, made great contributions to their teams’ efforts yet avoided the controversy on the whole. In fact, their claim to fame came in the form of a far more minor and amusing incident.

That’s right; forget the offside calls and red cards, Ribery slipped under the radar with a filthy nutmeg on Modric.

The Real Madrid man is no stranger to a piece of skill himself so to see a master between at his own game is quite the sight. Ribery certainly didn’t set the world alight, but he has this to look back on at least.

The beautifully executed maneuver can be seen below:

Effortless. In the midst of a hotly contested match, it takes some guts to execute the height of footballing humiliation; Ribery accepted the challenge.

Unfortunately for him, however, Modric left with the last laugh. Vidal’s sending off saw Bayern fade away in extra time and three damning strikes from Los Blancos put the tie to bed.

Nevertheless, the Germans did themselves proud at the Bernabeu and can certainly feel hard done by. After all, Ribery’s sweet little nutmeg exemplifies that despite elimination, Bayern went out in style and with dignity.
