Following his magnificent performance for Real Madrid against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, many football fans are asking themselves the same question this morning: ‘Is Marcelo currently the best left-back in the world?’The Brazilian full-back produced a masterclass at the Bernabeu and arguably outshone hat-trick hero Cristiano Ronaldo he was that good. Some of the statistics he registered against the German giants are truly remarkable.According to Squawka, Marcelo completed nine take-ons, created eight chances, put in seven crosses, made four interceptions, three blocks and provided one assist.

His assist for Ronaldo was quite brilliant. He beat three Bayern Munich players before laying the ball on a plate for his teammate to complete his hat-trick.

Squawka add that Marcelo created as many chances (eight) against Bayern as Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Xabi Alonso, Arturo Vidal and Thiago combined.

WhoScored, meanwhile, claim Marcelo produced seven key passes from open play - that’s more than any other player in this season’s Champions League.

ESPN handed Marcelo a 10/10 rating for his performance and few people who watched the match would argue that’s underserved or overly generous.

Video: Marcelo embarrasses Robben

The South American was playing with such confidence that he even managed to embarrass Robben during stoppage time.

Cutting in from the left flank, Marcelo pulled off a quick step-over before hitting a cross to the back post.

Robben slumped to his knees - and you can watch it here…

Some people think Marcelo mocked Robben afterwards...

Marcelo: We're ready for anyone

Marcelo, meanwhile, insists he doesn’t care who Real Madrid draw in the Champions League semi-finals.

“I have no preference in the draw, we are in good form,” Marcelo told Real Madrid's official website, per the Daily Mail.

“We are tired, but happy. We worked hard on the physical side and in the end it turned out well, I was able to contribute in the third goal and help the team.

“The important thing was to get through to the next round against a great team, very strong. Now we want more.”
