As the 2016/17 Premier League term nears it's end, the voting for the prestigious end of season awards has begun.Shortlists for the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year have both been announced, as have the candidates for Premier League Manager and Signing of the Year. But ahead of the 44th PFA Awards on April 23rd, the PFA Team of the Year - as voted for by the players, not fans - has been announced. It reads as follows (see below for an official tweet):David de Gea (Manchester United); Kyle Walker (Tottenham), David Luiz (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Danny Rose (Tottenham); Eden Hazard (Chelsea), Dele Alli (Tottenham), N'Golo Kante (Chelsea), Sadio Mane (Liverpool); Harry Kane (Tottenham), Romelu Lukaku (Everton).

PFA TEAM OF THE YEAR

Chelsea and Tottenham dominated the XI as expected, with four players from either side representing the Premier League's front runners.

However, while every player in the Team of the Year has been superb this season, football fans were far from happy with a few selections.

David de Gea has once again been solid for Manchester United, but there's a strong argument to be made that Hugo Lloris - who has conceded only 22 league goals - is more deserving.

What fans are most aggrieved by, though, is the absence of Toby Alderweireld and Alexis Sanchez.

While Alderweireld has been a rock for Tottenham and is arguably the Premier League's best centre-back, Sanchez has been Arsenal's shining light with 19 league goals and nine assists.

Sanchez's snub is particularly strange. His statistics are far superior to Mane's 13 goals and five assists and he's also in the running for PFA Player of the Year.

Fans quickly expressed their confusion at Alderweireld and Sanchez not making the XI, as you can see in the small collection of Twitter reactions below.

TWITTER REACTS

Sanchez and Alderweireld weren't the only players unlucky to not make the cut - Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Alonso, Victor Moses and Jan Vertonghen have all been sensational this season.

Professional footballers clearly have a different way of looking at things than the fans.
