Anthony Joshua has issued a classy retort to Tyson Fury in an interview with iFL TV.

The 27-year-old believes that there was too much talk and not enough action from The Gypsy King, and would like to see it change.

“You know what, to a certain extent if I’m the poor man’s Frank Bruno, it’s a credit. You know what I mean.

“Cause he was a true servant of boxing. He represented himself well and he gave us entertaining nights.

“So if I can be compared to a poor man’s Frank Bruno, I’m half way there.

“But sometimes, you catch people on the wrong day; you’ve got to voice your opinion. People can only keep poking you for so long and you can just sit. You’re going to react, so I voiced my opinion.

“And it’s really just saying look, fighting fighters is evitable we’re all in the same era so we are going to fight each other

“But like – less talking train, try to improve and make fights.

“I’m just trying to say instead of talking so much and stuff like that –everyone wants to see you back - get fit and come back.

“And if I’m the heavyweight you want to fight, then why not.”

Frank Bruno’s fight record was 45 fights, 40 wins, and 38 knockouts, including a bout with the great American Mike Tyson.

AJ’s much more measured comments come after he responded to Fury’s jibe by calling the Mancunian “fat ass”.

Tyson evidently did not take that particularly well and reacted by calling the 27-year-old a wannabe bad man and that he was coming for him.

Klitschko v Joshua came about after Fury had to postpone two meetings with the big Ukrainian, firstly due to an ankle injury, and then when he stepped away from the ring following much-published comments about his battle with depression.

Whether or not Fury will return to the ring has not yet been confirmed, and there are doubts as to whether he will.

The world of heavyweight boxing has been kind to Joshua during The Gypsy King’s absence. The 27-year-old Brit has had 18 victorious bouts, interestingly winning them all by knockout.

Klitschko represents a very different challenge, however, and it should be a fascinating fight.
