Massive news broke on Wednesday as it was confirmed that Serena Williams is expecting a baby come this fall.

The American tennis legend had posted a photo on Snapchat with the caption "20 weeks", but was quick to delete the post soon after.

However, the speculation was in fact validated when a spokeswoman for the veteran player announced the news officially to several news outlets.

Representative Kelly Bush Novak said: "I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall."

This announcement has sent the tennis world into a frenzy with well wishes pouring in from fans and fellow players alike.

Her compatriot Andy Roddick was also on hand to congratulate the 23-time grand slam winner and shared his sentiments on social media.

The former US Open champion took to Twitter, saying: "There's gonna be a baby GOAT ..... We are so happy, and we know @serenawilliams will be a great mother."

This heartfelt message is sure to delight Williams, who experienced some of her greatest days on the court along with Roddick during the mid-2000s.

Having appeared in three sensational Wimbledon finals with yet another legend Roger Federer, the 34-year-old was a constant contender for the tournament on grass.

Roddick, who once held the record for the fastest serve in the game, referred to the soon-to-be mother as 'GOAT' which stands for 'greatest of all time' and there are very few viewers or critics who could argue with that.

Williams has enjoyed a glittering career, to say the least, and is the undisputed queen of tennis.

Even at the age of 35, she is showing no signs of slowing down, which she proved following her 23rd Grand Slam triumph at the Australian Open, during which she was already eight weeks pregnant.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion is going to play no further part in any tournaments this year and is planning a return to action in 2018 following a period of recuperation.

It is not uncommon for players to make a return following a child birth, a couple of examples being Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka, with the former winning three Grand Slams after the comeback.

With the impending arrival of another Williams in the making, people are sure to be excited regarding the prospects of a possible tennis star in the future, the family having already provided the world with legends such as Serena and her sister Venus.
