Although it was never going to happen, there was still a glimmer of hope that somehow WWE would have allowed Daniel Bryan to compete in one more match.

It’s probably a foregone conclusion now; there’s no chance it can happen unless the current SmackDown LIVE general manager decides against signing a new WWE deal and opts to compete elsewhere – and we know how he views New Japan Pro Wrestling.

WRESTLEMANIA 33 PLANS

If there was a chance that it could happen, though, there isn’t a better opponent than The Miz as there seems to be a genuine animosity between the pair and that always makes for a fantastic story on-screen.

Fans will know that plenty of plans were continuously being changed in the build-up to WrestleMania 33, and a new report from Billi Bhatti of the Dirty Sheets podcast has shed light on a huge plan which WWE ended up scrapping.

He shared the news on Sportskeeda, and revealed that The Miz wasn’t initially supposed to face John Cena in a tag team match which also featured Maryse and Nikki Bella.

Instead, Bryan was supposed to feature in his plans but wasn’t actually going to be competing.

Billi is claiming that the original plan was to have Bryan bring out Shinsuke Nakamura as The Miz’s surprise opponent, and it’s a shame WWE didn’t go down this route.

THE KING OF STRONG STYLE

He wrote: “Original plans called for The Miz and Daniel Bryan feud to culminate with The Miz issuing Daniel Bryan an open challenge to find him an Intercontinental challenger for WrestleMania.

“This would have been Miz’s way of convincing Bryan to add him onto the card, as the storyline would have been that Bryan wasn’t putting Miz on the WrestleMania card.

“Shinsuke Nakamura would have debuted as Daniel Bryan's surprise challenger for the Intercontinental Championship and won. The Miz would have then left to go to RAW.

“However, those plans were scrapped as early as December, and Nakamura vs. [Bobby] Roode was extended to conclude in April. It was initially set to be a one and done.”

It’s crazy to think how different WWE could have looked right now, even though it’s been less than one month since WrestleMania 33 was taking place.

This also means that Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker wouldn’t have gone ahead, as rumours suggested The Deadman was going to battle John Cena, and this is what would have happened had Nakamura faced off against The Miz.

Fans loved the dynamic between Bryan and The Miz, and it would have been perfect for Bryan to bring out Shinsuke – not only to give him his WrestleMania moment – but to allow his feud with The Miz to end on a high.

It’s interesting to note that had this been the plan going forward, Dean Ambrose would not have been the current Intercontinental Champion, and the King of Strong Style would have debuted on SmackDown LIVE in the greatest way possible.
