The first half of Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur was an incredibly lively affair.Willian got the ball rolling with a brilliant free-kick in the fifth minute, smashing the ball past Hugo Lloris from the edge of the area. But Chelsea’s lead lasted just 13 minutes. Tottenham began to take charge of the game and were rewarded when Harry Kane expertly headed home from Christian Eriksen’s cross. But one incident that BBC Sport, who are broadcasting the game, didn’t pay too much attention to involved Dele Alli and David Luiz.As Alli attempted to chase down the ball, he caught the Brazilian on the ankle with his studs. Referee Martin Atkinson saw nothing wrong and play continued after Luiz received treatment. Now, Alli doesn’t have a great reputation when it comes to committing mischievous actions, so it was no surprise when fans accused him of deliberately stamping on Luiz.Check out the incident below, and make your own mind up.
Here’s how fans on Twitter reacted.
Alli has history
Since he burst onto the scene last season, Alli has been caught up in controversy on an all-too-regular occurrence.
He clearly punched West Brom’s Claudio Yacob in a meeting last year and was also sent off in a match against Gent after producing a horrifying challenge.
And yet the 20-year-old has vowed not to change his style.
“There has been a lot said about me and my aggression,” he said in March, via the Telegraph. “But it is not something I am going to look to change.
“But I have got to keep improving and learning. Not to play with less aggression, but how I react in different situations is something I am looking to improve. I have been working on it - hopefully people can see that.
“That’s the player I am and I’ve always been like that since I was younger. It’s about getting it under control and I think I have been doing that.”
