Chelsea will compete for the FA Cup trophy after they overcame Tottenham Hotspur in a pulsating semi-final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.A brace in the first half from Willian, plus late goals from Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic, helped the Blues to a 4-2 win over their London rivals. It means Chelsea are in a position to claim their fifth FA Cup trophy of the Roman Abramovich era. That’s a remarkable run of success.Victory in England’s finest cup competition could be the cherry on top of what has been a brilliant season for the Blues, provided they go on to win the Premier League, of course. What an appointment Antonio Conte has proved to be. Questions were beginning to be asked about the Italian following successive league defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal in September, but Conte hasn’t looked back since changing to a 3-4-3 system. The west London outfit are now within touching distance of a domestic double."I am proud for this achievement,” Conte said after reaching the final, via BBC Sport. “It is great for the players for me.
“This is my first season in England and it is great to fight for the title and reach the final of the FA Cup, a great competition.
"During the season there is a moment as a coach you must take a strong decision. You have to take a risk. If you win the plan worked, if you don't the responsibility is on you. I think today our plan worked very well."
One punter will be celebrating
Someone else who will still be celebrating Chelsea’s victory is Lewis Elliot, a football fan from Scotland.
Elliot won a remarkable £20,577.00 on Saturday after his 6,858/1 treble came in.
Elliot placed £3 on both teams to score in both halves in Hibernian’s game against Aberdeen, Crawley’s contest against Carlisle and Chelsea against Tottenham.
Aberdeen beat Hibernian 3-2 in a 12:15pm kick-off before Crawley and Carlisle battled to a 3-3 draw in a 3pm kick-off.
Crawley, remarkably, equalised in the 93rd minute of the match.
Then came the decider
Then came the decider, Chelsea vs Tottenham, which got underway at 5.15pm.
Elliot must have gotten his hopes up when Harry Kane equalised in the 18th minute. All he needed was two goals, one for each side, in the second half and he would be £20,000 richer.
Dele Alli scored Tottenham’s second goal in the 52nd minute and all that was required was one more Chelsea goal. Up stepped Hazard to deliver it, firing home in the 75th minute.
Nemanja Matic added another shortly afterwards but it didn’t matter.
