The WWE has been fortunate to have some of the most exciting stars on its roster, and some of them often reach the very top by becoming the WWE Champion.

However, that’s not always the case and sometimes even fans are guilty of having extremely high expectations which ultimately leads to the demise of said superstar.

FUTURE WORLD CHAMPIONS

It works the other way as well, though, as there are stars that should have become champions but WWE didn’t pull the trigger on it when the time was right, such as Wade Barrett.

Reddit user ‘effJBL’ recently brought up something very interesting from a WWE magazine publication in 2009 where they predicted the futures of 10 WWE superstars and they weren’t any ordinary predictions either; they claimed the 10 in the list will be future world champions and the list now looks borderline laughable.

John Morrison is now competing as Johnny Mundo on the independent circuit and although he became the ECW Champion, he never captured the big one in WWE and is no longer with the company.

The Miz is probably the biggest success story from the publication, as the reality star managed to become WWE Champion and even defeated John Cena at WrestleMania. He’s still with the company to this day and remains one of the best heels in recent memory.

David Hart Smith is another that had the potential to succeed, especially because of his family heritage but he too didn’t become a world champion and was released from the company in 2011.

Tyson Kidd was a sad case, as he started to come into his own when teaming with Cesaro during their incredible run as a team but was never able to become a WWE Champion like they had predicted – he was then forced to retire due to injury in 2015.

Jack Swagger managed to become a world champion in WWE, but his career never reached those heights again as he made his exit from the company in 2017.

Ted DiBiase Jr is another that had the potential to reach the top, especially during his run in Legacy, but he too was another that couldn’t live up to expectations as he’s no longer with the company and has now retired from professional wrestling.

Evan Bourne is still enjoying success on the independent circuit as Matt Sydal, but the exciting high-flier was never able to get anywhere near the world championship picture during his time in WWE before being released from his contract.

It’s baffling how Cody Rhodes was never able to become a world champion in WWE despite many instances where it looked as if he as destined for it. Nevertheless, he finally left the company last year before embarking on a career on the independent circuit.

It was a massive relief when Dolph Ziggler finally became the world champion but based on his most recent booking you’d never have guessed he was ever in that title picture, but he remains part of the company to this day.

Again, it’s surprising how Kofi Kingston had never captured the WWE Championship as the company opted to utilise him as a trusty mid-card superstar; even if many wanted him to defeat Orton for the gold in their feud.

Being part of the New Day, though, has worked wonders and you’d assume he still stands a chance of being WWE Champion, with or without them by his side.

Here’s hoping WWE predicts the futures of the next generation of superstars a lot better.
