Earlier this week, fight fans were excited following the news that Jon Jones could be returning to action in July at the UFC 214 event in Anaheim, California.

Rather than taking a tune-up fight, though, it looks as if Bones is going up against the man he was originally supposed to battle at UFC 200 with the organisation looking to book the highly anticipated rematch against Daniel Cormier.

UFC 214

Sadly, his problems out of the UFC looked to have caught up with Jones as president Dana White confirmed to The Herd on Wednesday that there’s no way Jones can main event a card again, which means his potential clash with DC would be the co-main event – at best.

If that’s the case then the organisation will obviously be looking for a fight that can either top that or put on a championship fight that fans will be invested in, and if a report from Forbes is anything to go by then UFC could be going all out for their July event.

Granted, Conor McGregor is the name that will pop up repeatedly as a potential headliner but he’s currently on a hiatus from the Octagon, while he’s aggressively pursuing a super fight with Floyd Mayweather.

So, there are apparently two other mega fights in the works for the card.

One of the options that has emerged as a potential main event involves Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino, who recently posted on her Instagram account that she’ll be fighting Germaine de Randamie for the UFC featherweight championship.

THREE TITLE FIGHTS?

However, GDR’s camp has claimed that nothing is in the works despite Cyborg’s announcement – yet the dangerous Brazilian has still started her fight camp even though nothing has been announced.

With time ticking on her contract, UFC may be forced to make a move quick to have her in action again.

More Instagram activity has hinted towards a third title being defended on the night, as welterweight king Tyron Woodley responded to Cormier’s UFC 214 post and told him that he’ll also be there, that’s despite his fight camp probably suiting the 213 event a little better.

The Chosen One wants a money fight, and a two-month turnaround is perhaps too soon for Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal who fight in May, so a logical option in Nick Diaz is something they can see happening.

It’s a lot to give someone so controversial who hasn’t fought in years, but there’s no denying that the Stockton native is a big draw, and any return fight featuring his name will have fans glued to their television sets.

If the reports are true, then the Cyborg option looks to be the best bet for the main event as Woodley drew a lot of criticism in his last championship defence.
