As we all know, there were plenty of doubters when Zlatan Ibrahimovic signed for Manchester United. The nomadic Swede has been one of the best forwards of his generation, but at 35-years-old, there were serious question marks about his ability to adapt to the rigours of England's top-flight.He answered them emphatically. 28 goals in 46 games across all competitions is a fantastic return for anyone and United fans began praying that he would extend his stay at Old Trafford beyond his one-year deal. But then, Zlatan encountered a rare piece of rotten luck. During a Europa League quarter-final with Anderlecht last week, the former PSG man suffered serious ligament damage to his knee.It meant the end of his debut season in England and at his age, he has quite possibly played his last game - certainly at the highest level.Ibrahimovic scored a brace to help the Red Devils win the EFL Cup this season, but it is a shame he will not be able to spearhead the club in their quest for the Europa League, and thus, Champions League qualification. After winning league titles in Italy, France, Holland and Spain, it's a shame Zlatan might leave United with unfinished business. However, if the 11-time Swedish Forward of the Year has anything to say about it, this isn't the end. On Sunday night, He posted his first thoughts since suffering his injury on Instagram and he seems determined to return. The caption reads: "First of all, thank you for all the support and love. Its no news I got injured so I will be out of fotball for a while. I will go through this like everythings else and come back even stronger."So far I played with one leg so it shouldn't be any problem. One thing is for sure, I decide when its time to stop and nothing else. Giving up is not an option. See you soon."
After United players warmed up in shirts bearing Zlatan's and Marcos Rojo's names before their 2-0 win over Burnley yesterday, anybody would think that they were mourning their injured players and they were gone forever.
But the legendary striker's message says the complete opposite.
