Wrestlers have to do strange things in the name of putting on a show for the audience all the time. From jumping off steel cages, to being buried under a literal ton of soil for a pay per view event, the company can ask you to do a lot of things that you would never consider doing otherwise.

Hornswoggle was formerly a member of the WWE roster and he made his living off of one of the stranger occurrences in the world of professional wrestling. He routinely appeared under the ring during matches to cause disturbances and rachet up the drama during shows.

Recently he spoke to Sports Illustrated about his experiences during his time with the company and the time he spent under the ring came into question. His answer to those questions will probably shock longtime fans that wondered how he always managed to be down there.

Swoggle said: “When it comes to being under the ring, I’d either go under before the doors opened or would get snuck under in the dark while a video package played on the screen. There were times when I was underneath for six-plus hours because it wouldn’t work out to sneak me under later in the show.

“I’d get dressed under there, have plenty of waters, and would normally bring my phone or PSP. Thankfully, I never had a bathroom emergency under the ring.”

He’s absolutely right about that last part, having him running to the back for a bathroom break would certainly kill the immersion for the fans. Still, that is a staggering amount of time to be just about anywhere, much less trapped in tight quarters like the ones under a wrestling ring.

The smaller star made it work though and it led to some strange moments that could never really be predicted by the audience in attendance or those watching at home. Seeing how the sausage gets made backstage is always a treat for fans.

After sitting under an apron for four hours with nothing but a cell phone and a handheld game console to keep you company, it must be a welcome sight to burst from under the ring and wreak havoc on the performers who have been stomping above you the entire time.
